My usual golf activities in the winter include Tiger Woods 08 or 09 now.... watching golf tournaments, TGC, interacting on TGN and OG... reading a few golf blogs.. drooling over internet updates of new equipment releases... and occassionally hitting a few at the Dome nearby. Until recently I had followed that program to a t.... but it all changed.... ;)
This winter I had set a goal of not purchasing any new equipment. Well that went to hell in a hand basket the past week. It all started when my pal Mike was selling a driver head, 907D2. I had tried it out late last season and it's a rocket, although the shaft he had in it doesn't work for me. So we worked out a deal where I get the head and he'll help me shaft it. Probably going to put an Accra shaft, although I need to hit a few to make certain I'll get the ball flight I want.
Second problem, Matty finds me on FB and proceeds to talk about this great driver he's selling... an Adams XTD Pro and again it's a great price.... so I pull the trigger, luckily the shaft works for me so no added expense there. It's squarish in shape but a lot of pros are playing this sucker and it should set up nicely for me. If not then I'll dump it for whatever it cost me, or maybe a little profit. ;)
Thirdly... I had some great Callaway X-forged irons late last season, however something just didn't feel right with them, and in December I needed some cash, so I sold them and got a little cash plus a brand new Vokey SM 60' in the Oilcan finish. I normally can't hit a 60, but make do with a 56 or 54 by opening it up.... anyways... selling the Cally X's left me with the Titleist 704's but I was still wanting another set that was for the better player, a blade style in the lower irons, muscle back in the longer sticks.
So I had been lamenting on the lack of deals... and talking myself into making do with the 704's which wouldn't be a bad thing. Still... I want new! Then lo and behold a great deal on some Ping I-5's shows up... I almost took them but found out the same seller was unloading some Srixon 701's soooo, I bought them... I know starving student, so why? Because I have a part time job now and I'll be golfing more this year since I'm not working at the course. And they were a great deal, no marks on the face, great setup... I know everyone who's hit these things and they all take care of their gear.
Yes I can trace the history of these badboys... first Scott had them for a month or so, then he sold them to Rob, who sold them to Jeff... both Rob and Jeff may have played them 20 rounds, plus 20 for Scott... almost like new with these guys, nothing on the sweet spot at all! haha!
I'll post some pics when everything finally shows up.
